Option One - low maintenance protection

If you are looking for an easy to use wax and cleanse system that is low cost and easy to apply then our Dodo Juice Need for Speed Cleaner wax or our R222 paint cleanser and concours look wax are very suitable. As its name suggests Need For Speed is simply worked into the paint and then buffed dry to give a high quality shine and can be used as soften as required. The R222 paint cleanser is a non abrasive paint cleaner and after cleaning the paint application of the R222 wax is easy and effortless

Paint Protection Systems or sealants come in a number of guises these days and choosing the correct ones can be difficult Modern "nano-technology" finishes sit on the top of the paintwork bonding to it, and do a combined job of filling and waxing helping to eliminate some swirl marks. In general we feel there are better products available on the market than the standard "dealer offered" Paint Protection Systems" (PPS) which often fail to live up to their promise and can often make dark cars look dull. They also often require annual maintenance which is normally buried in the small print and not pointed out to the purchaser. Even new cars may require some paint rectification and light machine polishing, and the application of a good quality paint sealant can make a huge difference to the finish, even on a new car and also costing less!

We have used a number of products recently and are continually looking at new innovations. At present the GLAREŽ Professional Polish is one of our favourites. It actually polishes into the top layer of clear coat and bonds with it giving a very deep shine that competes with traditional paste waxes and it needs very low maintenance. In addition it is suitable for all types of vehicles of all ages.

Option Two - the Carnauba wax system

High Depth of shine and warmth of colour are generally agreed to be best achieved using a carnauba wax after successful washing, decontamination and polishing.

Full details of the waxes we offer are to be found on our Dodo Juice and R222 pages. Carnauba waxes can be applied to detailed paint or on top of a PPS. While applying a wax without removing the old wax or wax of a different type will be ok, the best results are always achieved by paint cleansing in some form prior to wax application.

The wax MYTH
People always ask.... What is the BEST WAX to use ?.... a question that is quite impossible to answer as there is no such thing. It is pretty much guaranteed that 99% of people would not be able to see the difference between a low end wax and an ultra expensive one when applied side by side on the same panel which has been properly detailed beforehand.... ("believe me I have done this test several times… Mike") The paste wax market continues to be a source of constant confusion for buyers since there is no standard regarding the description of carnauba percentages. 70% pure carnauba wax is a brick and can not be used in any way to polish a car so don't go by the description. We also don't believe that car manufacturers use different paints for their vehicles so waxes specially made for German or Italian cars are more marketing hype and high fashion than high tech. This also goes for colour charged waxes which are very fashionable. added warmth can be achieved on some colours but we do not feel that you need a different colour wax for every car. Supernatural will always give a warmer finish than its siblings no matter what colour it is applied to- and we do a lot of blacks!

There is also no particular difference between a "soft" wax and a "hard" one in terms of quality. Purple Haze or Light Fantastic perform just as well as Blue Velvet or Diamond White. Some of our customers even feel that the Dodo Juice range is too complicated and takes too much effort to apply and leave to cure. They love the ease of use of the R222 products as they can wax their cars often as quickly as doing a quick detail. Soft waxes are simply easier to apply and are blended with more light waxes and oils to make them so. In the end it is what goes before that makes the ultimate difference. Great results always need good preparation and there is no substitute for patience and hard work

We do however feel that hard waxes do layer better and cure more evenly and despite the hype about using your hands to apply waxes we think a better more even result is achieved using an applicator! While it is impossible to show the true effects in a photo the above shots show the final results of a paint sealant (M3) and carnauba wax (Aston DB2)...!

At the end of the day you must buy the wax that best suits you, your waxing "regime" and your budget, and this will often require a bit of trial and error. Dodo Juice Supernatural stands up against a lot more expensive competition and, since the average car owner will not be leaving it alone for more than a month, and uses quick detailers etc. in between wax treatments, so called wax "longevity" becomes an irrelevance.

Environmental conditions also play an important role and there are lots of other reasons why one product would be recommended over another but there is not room to go into all that here. Please note that all of the above is purely our opinion and we are always happy to be proved wrong. Hopefully our results speak for themselves.

The Wax "regime"
The deepest wet look shine is generally agreed to come by using a carnauba wax which is applied in layers to obtain a really deep shine
While you can pay thousands of pounds for super-waxes, we believe that great results can be had for a lot less money and any wax requires the correct preparation to get the most from it.

After completing your paint rectification and cleansing then its time to wax!

Start with 2-3 layers of your chosen wax applied at intervals to allow each layer to dry. Do not "over polish" you wax when buffing off as the idea is to polish the wax to a shine not remove it!

Once a month-8 weeks, after cleaning your car apply another coat of wax to refresh the finish. In between waxes you can maintain the surface with a light coat of quick detailer to keep it in tip top condition

Repeat this procedure for 4-6 months and then completely remove the wax with a paint cleanser and start the process over again, carrying out any minor paint rectification that might be required and touching up stone chips etc.

As they say in the TV adverts "simples!"

Keeping your wax at it's best
Remember that waxing the car is just the first step in the detailing process. It needs to maintained to get the best results so here are a few tips

NEVER wipe down a dusty car in warm weather by hand the sharp dust will mark the wax
NEVER wash the car in hot sun if you can't rinse it and wash it. Try a DryWash system as the special formula prevents dirt particles from scratching the surface. (This is great for shows by the way, taking off insect splatter and dirt easily and leaving a great shine)

ALWAYS use a mild shampoo that won't strip the wax and a two bucket wash system and or snow foam to remove grit before washing
see our washing section for more info

REMEMBER multiple light coats of wax are better than thick uneven ones that will dry unevenly. Allow sufficient curing time between wax layers and buff off the wax lightly. Remember you are trying to polish it not remove it!

QUICK DETAILING with products such as Dodo Red Mist will help protect and refresh the wax surface between washes

YOU CAN put waxes over paint sealants but not the other way around so if your car is exposed to the elements all year round you could seal it then apply the wax in the summer months for that wet look shine.
