Claybar

Step One - Decontamination - the clay bar

Once the washing is completed it's time to decontaminate the paintwork. While washing removes surface dirt and grease it very rarely removes tar and tree sap and other airborne contaminants which make the paint feel rough. This is done using a Clay Bar and a Clay lube which slides over the paint knocking off these surcae contaminants and leaving the paint smooth. Paint cleansers and compounds will remove these too but its wasteful of the product when you can do it simply with a clay bar. Remember to use very light pressuer and don't allow the panel to dry during use. When the clay bar gets dirty simply re work to a clean disc and keep going but if you drop it on the ground and it gets gritty then junk it. Dirty claybar sections can be used for wheels very effectively so don't throw those away.

work round the car in small sections and once clayed re-wash the car to remove all the lube and clay residue

Now your are ready to Polish you car........!

Step Two - Polishing

Polishing is the process of cleaning the paint and producing that really deep shine. It can be achieved by hand with paint cleansers such as R222 Gloss enhancing paint cleanser and Dodo Juice Lime Prime

These clean the paint and produce a high gloss finish and are the final step in any detailing process before applying your chosen sealant or wax.
Ultimately quicker and more effective is to do the basic polishing by machine. The Polishing Company can offer range of Polishing solutions to suit both the amateur and professional alike, from basic dual action systems to professional rotary systems.

Please call for more info on our polishers

Dual Action Polishers offer a very low risk route to gaining significantly better polishing results. Dual action polishers work differently to rotary polishers in that the polishing head oscillates randomly about a fixed point as the polishing head spins (hence the term dual action). This means that friction is vastly reduced at any given point of contact, limiting the effective work rate and greatly reducing the risk of burning the finish or removing too much paint. Therefore, dual action polishers are ideal for car care enthusiasts who want to be able to safely correct their paint without the fear of inflicting further damage
The advantage of a dual head machine like the Cyclo is that the machine is much more balanced and vibration free. The Cyclo requires no additional pressure to make the polish work and therefore is ideal for polishing large eareas or for continuous operation

Rotary polishers do require some practice and experience to acheive good results. The biggest danger is using too much speed and not holding the polisher correctly. However rotary polishers do work faster than most single head dual action polishers and are better suited to heavy swirl and scratch removal

There is a vast choice of polishing compounds to choose from when carrying out paintwork correction. Our favourite polishes are the Menzerna range which offer eeceptional results with minimum mes and require minimal experience to achieve a great finish. See the Menzerna pages for more info and to purchase

If more work is required on the paintwork that is beyond the limits of a paint cleanser then specialist Polishing Compounds are normally used to remove paiint defects by removing a very smal top layer from the paint. There are a number of well known compoiunds available commercially from the likes of 3M and Farecla but these can be difficult to use at times and are often not suitable for use with dual action polishers. Our preferred compoiunding system is to use the Menzerna range and if you are new to polishing then remember to apply the lightest compound possible to achiev the results you want. Menzerna 203S is a simple to use and extremely good 'one pass" compound that will give great resuklts without having to use heavier polishes and variation of the pad used will provide high quality swirl mark removal plus final finishing all from one polish. for full details see the Menzerna pages or click here
